Eighth Annual Foard Band Classic - October 22, 2005

Currently the contest is scheduled to begin around noon.  The exact starting and ending times will depend on the number of bands entered.

The goal is to have at 14-16 bands in competition that day.  The Foard “Tiger” Band will perform in exhibition before the awards ceremony.

Much student and adult help will be needed before and during the contest with things like:

concessions

band guides

bus parking

tabulation

hospitality tent

video taping performances

moving equipment

collecting supplies

If you are interested in working on the contest, please contact Mike or Denise Filip.

A great way for parents to support the Band Classic, the band and their student is by sponsoring a trophy or buying an ad in the program. For more information, see the link for trophies and ads at upper left section of this page.  Clink on the link, print the page, fill out and return to:

Fund Raisers

The county gives the band program $6,000.  All other money the program needs to function must come from fundraisers and the boosters. To that end, the Music Boosters will be running two order-taking fund-raisers this year:

Tiger Discount Cards:

Dates August 29 through September 17, 2005.
Each student’s “fair share” goal is 15 cards.
The sale ends on Blitz Day.  Blitz Day is September 17, 2005.  All band students (9-12) will be divided into teams to canvas the area and sell Tiger Cards.  Feel free to come and drive your student (and other students) this day as they participate in the Blitz Day sale.
Students will earn trip credits of $4.00 per card sold towards the spring trip.  If a student sells his/her “fair share,” they will earn $60.00 towards the spring trip.

 Florida Citrus Fruit

Dates September 23 through October 24, 2005.
Fruit delivery day is November 17, 2005.
Students are expected to pick-up and deliver the fruit they sold.
Students will be earning trip credits on this fundraiser towards the spring trip.  Half of the profit raised will be donated to the student’s trip credit account.

Even though many students might be unsure whether they will be going on the trip, each student is encouraged to participate in each fund-raiser fully.  As you can see, these fundraisers end in October, but the trip is not until April.  First semester is the best fund raising time of the school year.  Not a year goes by that students are not sorry they didn’t raise the money to go on the spring trip, so please participate.

The Boosters also have other fundraisers:

Ø      The Foard Band Classic (October 22—see trophy and program ad info)

Ø      Spirit item sales and the pot-of-gold at the home football games.

The entire amount raised during these fund raisers go directly into the general Booster fund to be spent on the students.  Many volunteers will be needed to make these fundraisers successful.

The Boosters pay for things like—all guard equipment (flags, poles, sabers, etc.), all entry fees to contests and festivals, bus travel ($2.00 a mile), additional instructors (guard, brass and percussion), marching band show expenses, winter band uniforms, sheet music, instruments, awards, etc.

Unfortunately, students who owe money from fund raisers last year will not be allowed to participate this year until that money is turned in.

Please help out—participate in the fund raisers, donate time and money to the contests, and support your child in the band.  The kids and I cannot do it without you. Thank you.

Booster Meetings

Meetings of the Foard Music Boosters are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 in the band room.  Attending the meetings is the best way to keep abreast of all the information about the band.  All parents of students in the Foard Band program (Concert Band I, Marching/Concert Band and Guard) are asked and encouraged to attend.  Your support, work, effort, attendance and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
